“Don’t despise humble beginnings” that’s what we have been told.  Fourteen years ago God put a vision in the heart of our pastor, Pastor Andy Loos.  This vision was to stir revival in Coshocton County.  Revival, not a series of meetings, but a sovereign move of God that would grip the community and bring about significant change.  Change, not only in the spiritual climate of our city but also a moral, physical, economical, even a cultural change.  In October of 2006, the time was right for such a work to begin, and Liberty Church was founded.  Meeting in a rented room at Kids America, 15 people who felt the leading of God’s spirit to help, joined together to form a church on the move.  Like any organization we have seen our ups and downs.  Most church plants that fail will do so within the first year.  Celebrating our first year of ministry was such a highlight.  We felt if we made it through the first year we could make it through anything.  Now, even after 5 years, we are still as passionate as at the first.

From the very beginning it was our desire to establish permanency in our community.  We wanted the world to know we were not a “fly by night” church but one that would truly remain and be a blessing.  We found a small storefront at 419 Main St. to be sufficient for our first home.  We paid a monthly rent and hung a sign out front.  The world will finally know we are here, we thought. After almost one year of growth in that building we knew it was time to start looking for a larger facility.  Our church sanctuary was filling up and our children’s room overflowing.  In October 2007, we began work on our next church home, 313 Main St.  The space was perfect for our next step, in spite of a few hindrances.  This building of 6,000 sq. ft. was unoccupied for some time due to the fire next door at the Park Hotel.  A new wall was constructed but the building was a mess.  Many hours were put in by our pastor and church members, in effort to make a suitable home for Liberty Church.  Gradually we created the atmosphere we were looking for to reflect the ministry we were becoming.  The vision that Pastor Andy was preaching was finally starting to come into view.  After 5 years of service to our community we know once again that it is time to change.  Our church sanctuary was at near capacity and our children’s rooms are full.  We were averaging between 70 and 80 people in attendance on Sunday mornings for worship, and an additional 60 in our pre-teen and Youth ministries through the week.

A new building will be a great step in growth for our church. In order for Liberty Church to continue growing in strength as a congregation and for the vision to be established, we were in desperate need for a ground floor facility.  We settled on purchasing the former Mohawk, VFW building.  This building is in a location that will be well visible and easy to find.  It has the square footage we need for our church as well as being handicap accessible for our parishioners and guests.  We sought the Lord for over six months, while making offers that were continually rejected.  Finally, on December 23, 2011 the owners said yes, the bank said yes, and through the faithfulness of God and the obedience of his people we purchased the building.  Currently we are growing in faith and numbers while we remodel the facility.  Praise God for His faithfulness.
