COSHOCTON -- A little more than four years ago, an energetic young man returned to Coshocton and planted a seed.
Today, the fruit of that seed is about 100 people who call Liberty Church home, and two groups of about 20 to 30 youths who show up weekly to become inspired about spreading the news of Jesus Christ to their peers and families.
"The Lord has put it into my heart to establish a church that will impact everyday life," Pastor Andy Loos said. "To truly know that God's alive and the spirit of the Lord is at work and he wants to work in their lives."
Loos also thinks every church in the area serves a purpose and has been called to do a specific work.
"We should compliment and enhance each other when we all do our part to develop and organize the church as the body of Christ," he said.
The successful ministry at Liberty Church is compelling it to seek out a new home, one that will provide room for more growth and easier access for those who want to attend.
Currently, the church meets both at 313 Main St., which is two flights of stairs above Good News Book Store, and also a satellite location at 539 Main St., Suite A, which allows easier access.
Loos said looking for a new location has been a topic of discussion for a couple of years, but recently a goal was set of raising $40,000.
"We're looking for a building on the ground floor," he said. "It's time for us to establish roots and a sense of permanency. I believe in this area and want to continue to deliver a positive message in people's hearts. It's definitely time to be looking forward, and the great thing is God's been blessing us."
He realizes raising $40,000 in a capital campaign may be difficult in these economic times but is confident others will find ways to give something up to help the church.
"The just will live by faith, and the Bible says God will fulfill all our needs," Loos said.
Loos also believes the times require a place like Liberty Church.
"People need someplace to turn, and the church needs to be there to offer hope," he said.
Cory Bromberg has found Liberty Church so uplifting, he's drawn here each week from Newark.
His father, Beau Bromberg, first met Loos while campaigning to become congressman for the 18th District.
He and his brother, Jason, now contribute to the music programs at Liberty Church, and Cory has become a youth leader.
The youth programs work closely in conjunction with other churches to conduct special programming, Loos said. The goal is to draw area youth together to learn about Christ and to develop leaders. Activities for Liberty's two youth groups, for teens and pre-teens, are conducted in conjunction with New Life Ministries Church.
Young people are invited to play in the band, sing on stage, act with a drama team or use dance and art to let the world know that Jesus came that we might live life to the fullest, Bromberg said.
"I believe it's something that I want to be a part of," he said.
Loos and his wife, Jennifer, also meet with the young people and talk about how God has defined their roles as members of a family, both as youths and as adults.
He has set a goal of opening churches in Zanesville, Lancaster, Newark and Mount Vernon.
